Covid-19 Impacts Football Again

The announcement of the reappearance of Covid-19 in the community on August 11 has once again had an impact on community sport in New Zealand.  From midday Wednesday 12 August Auckland was put into a Level 3 lockdown while the rest of the country moved to Level 2.

Capital Football was quick to assess the situation, announcing the cancellation of junior football for the weekend of 15 and 16 August.  While youth football from u-13 upward and senior football was still scheduled to take place, this would be dependent on a further announcement from the government on Friday.  Should the decision be taken to put the Wellington region to Level 3 – then all football would be cancelled.

As it stands under Level 2 gatherings will be restricted to a maximum 100 people and contact tracing will be required with the usual hygiene precautions and social distancing to be observed.  NZ Football, Capital Football and the local HK clubbs are using iDMe for contact tracing with venue codes published on the Capital Football website and with weekly draws on the Waikanae Football facebook page.
