With one round-robin match remaining before the ‘finals’ phase the Summer Soccer competition is reaching crunch point for those teams seeking bragging rights heading into the Christmas Break.
A top of the table clash saw unbeaten Summer Saints prevail 3-2 over the only other previously unbeaten team PES. They remain the teams to beat at the top of the table, with only the Coasters standing between Summer Saints and round robin victory due to the superior goal difference PES has should they win and Summer Saints lose. Walking Injuries are a chance of moving into second place if they can take down PES in the final round, while Cuttriss Commandos and OAMND sit just outside the top three.
Further down the table a highlight of round 8 was Hawks first victory 4-2 over a Velocity team that had three previous victories under their belt. The late game was an entertaining match between Ladyhawks and Coasters, where two well taken ‘3 point’ goals by the Ladies saw them threaten an upset before Coasters were able to make the game safe with a 9-6 victory.
The final round robin matches take place on 10 December at Jim Cooke Park before moving into the finals series. The first finals round will be 17 December before there is a break for Christmas with the competition resuming on the 7 January.
