Ladyhawks Gain Promotion to Division Two

Waikanae Football sends out a massive congratulations to the Horowhenua Coastal FC Ladyhawks who confirmed their promotion as winners of Division Three with a 3-2 win over Tawa Tawny Ports on 3rd Sept. The stats behind their success this season shows 19 games played for 15 wins (including 9 out of 10 wins in the second round). They scored 83 goals (4.3 per game) conceding only 34 (1.8 per game). Ngaire Dolman was golden boot, scoring her 50th goal for the season in the last game; but it wasn’t all Ngaire as 13 other individuals put their name on the scoresheet. Ladyhawks started in 2017 and in their seventh year have finally won the division outright. While the team membership has changed over the years there are four originals still in the team and nine returnees from last season. With a squad of 23 this year Lisanne Templer describes the team as “various ages, various abilities, some first time players, and some very experienced players! Our main aim was to be social but also competitive. Every game we had fun and laughter and with that supported each other. We had injuries, players gone overseas/holidays but every game we could field a team.” Of coach Paul Cardwell Lisanne said “he made changes, mixed things up and believed in us and we listened and got the results. Brave man to coach a load of females!” The Ladyhawks also wish to thank the amazing support they’ve had with cheering lifting the team on the field as they got behind them. “Home games have been awesome with the large amount of people watching and cheering us on!” Thank you to everyone involved in the Ladyhawks successful season and we look forward to supporting you again in 2024!
