Senior Prizegiving Recognises Successful Year

Saturday 9th September saw the Waikanae AFC Senior Prizegiving held at the Clubrooms on Te Moana Road. There was a great attendance and cheerful atmosphere as the Club players and supporters gathered to witness a number of milestones and awards. Primarily the gathering was there to pay tribute to Charlie Sturman, President of the Club for the past 14 years, and the Sturman family for their dedication, service and passion for the Club. Vice-President Adam Price spoke of Charlie’s contribution in an emotional speech that drew a standing ovation from those present. The Club also thanked its members, managers, supporters, volunteers, committee, sponsors and all those that contribute to the successful running of “the best Club in the Wellington region”. As the attendees sat down to a sumptuous buffet provided by the “the Galley” (caterers at the Waikanae Boating Club) the awards were handed out. Supreme award of “Presidents Cup” went to Dawn Sturman for her many hours spent catering for teams on Saturdays and support of the Club through many other activities and support of Charlie (which deserves a Sainthood ;-)). Cole McIntosh from Coasters picked up the inaugural “Sturman Cup” (in honour of Charlie & the Sturman family) to be awarded to the ‘Club Player of the Year’ from nominations received from the all the team ‘Players of the Year’. Another inaugural award was ‘Golden Glove’ which was collected by Fraser Imrie from Hawks, while for the second year in a row Ngaire Dolman of Ladyhawks picked up Golden Boot with a massive 50 goals for the season. Steve Pinquet collected the Shield for the ‘Kiwis’ after their 3-0 victory over the ‘Rest of the World’ earlier in the day. Ten Year shirts were also awarded. For the full list of prizewinners check out the slides in this post. Once again the Club sincerely thanks everyone involved for making 2023 such a successful and enjoyable year. Nga mihi nui.
