Here’s an insight into the u12 HCFC (Horowhenua Coastal Football Club) team. While we have a local rivalry with our friends at Kapiti Coast United – there are times when both clubs have to work together for the greater good of the game and our members. Problem: at the start of the season both clubs had a handful of under 12 players but not quite enough to make up an extra team. Solution: join together to create a team and opportunity to ensure no-one missed out on playing footy. Thanks to the foresight from Waikanae President Charlie Sturman and Kapiti Coast United Co-Chair Tracy Nyhan – a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Clubs and “Horowhenua Coastal Football Club” was born. The core team, combining six players from Waikanae Football and six from KCU, plays in the u12 Mixed Capital Regional Leagues. The team is coached by Waikanae seniors Francis Jenkins (Firsts) and Matt Smith (Jets) and managed by Manson Jenkins (Coasters). As you can see their kit colours reflect a combination of Waikanae’s black and KCU’s yellow. Waikanae Football thanks our partner Kapiti Coast United and all those involved with the creation and running of the team for enabling our juniors to play the beautiful game.
