Waikanae’s First Team picked up their first 3 points of the season at home against Seatoun Reserves. On the adjacent field at Jim Cooke, Strollers claimed the derby win over Wanderers who were rocked by two early goals before competing well for the remainder of the game. Hawks couldn’t quite hang on to their 2-0 half time lead but came away with a draw against Manakau Tuakana Teina at Waikanae Park. Jets had a tough scrap against perennial competition winners KCU Hearts with cards-a-plenty dished out by the ref in a niggly match. A depleted Coasters side was no match for Manakau’s #1 team Hui Mai away at their Stadium although a highlight was three generations, Peter, Corin and Tyler Rodeka, taking the field for Waikanae.
On Sunday the Ladyhawks also had a tough trip to Kilbirnie where the Seautoun team proved too strong running out 4-1 victors. The inaugural Waikanae Masters vs Paekakariki Social match on Sunday (ANZAC Day) proved enjoyable for all with Paekakariki taking first blood 2-4 after a high scoring final quarter. Waikanae had led 1-0 for most of the game but some positional changes were probably their undoing as Paekakariki, with many more subs, finished the stronger. Thanks again to all involved in running and supporting local football.
